Question:
Why can't ABIT KT7A / KT7A-RAID V1.0/1.1/1.2 and KT7E mainboards
support AMD AthlonXP processors?
Explanation:
- ABIT KT7A / KT7A-RAID V1.0/1.1/1.2 mainboards were designed
before AMD launched the new AthlonXP processors.
- AMD new processor AthlonXP is slightly different from old Athlon
and need a hardware modification. Without the modification, system
may boot up flawlessly sometimes but fail to power on in some
cases. It's the root cause why KT7A / KT7A-RAID V1.0/1.1/1.2 and
KT7E mainboards cannot support AthlonXP processors.
- ABIT KT7A / KT7A-RAID V1.3 had implemented the hardware modification
to fulfill new CPU requirement and be able to support AthlonXP.
- Other vendors' KT133/KT133A mainboards also differentiate the
AthlonXP support from board version.
