<Summary>

Owing to the defect of VIA Bus Master Ultra ATA driver for Windows 2000, the system may hang up or crash occasionally after removing, adding, or changing IDE devices.

<Symptoms>

  • With the VIA Service Pack 4in1 drivers 4.26 for Windows 2000 installed, the removal of a CD-ROM on IDE-2 may cause a Blue-Screen-of-Death with the following message.

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

 

  • With the VIA Service Pack 4in1 drivers 4.26 for Windows 2000 installed, the adding of a hard disk on IDE-2 may cause a Blue-Screen-of-Death with a message regarding a registry error.

<Cause>

It seems to be a problem of the Bus Master Ultra ATA driver included in VIA Service Pack 4in1 drivers 4.26.

<Resolution>

  • When installing the 4in1 drivers 4.26 for Windows 2000, uncheck the first item; VIA BM Ultra ATA driver. Afterwards, any removal, addition or change of IDE devices will be okay.
  • If the Windows 2000 system already includes an installed VIA 4in1 drivers 4.26,
    you may uninstall the BM Ultra ATA driver before any change of IDE devices.
    After the change, you may reinstall the BM Ultra ATA driver again.
