<Symptoms>
Some drivers exhibit quite different characteristics between old
and new version, and may cause problems when you update from old
version directly.
The typical of such kinds of drivers are VIA 4in1 drivers and HPT
drivers.
Some users reported a Windows 2000 system crash while update new
HPT driver, or install VIA 4in1 drivers without uninstalling old
version.
<Solutions>
To avoid driver conflicts, remove/uninstall current version before
an update please.
For VIA 4in1 drivers,
a. |
Uninstall current VIA 4in1 drivers by running "setup.exe"
again. |

Reboot and get into Windows several times to make sure the
system stable and no problem. |
c. |
Install new VIA 4in1 drivers. |
For HPT drivers,
a. |
Always back up the system and data from RAID
to another storage devices, file servers or NAS available at
network place please.In case there is something wrong after
HPT driver update, you may restore the system and data. |

If no any RAID configuration built and the hard drives connected
to IDE-3/4 are in single mode, boot into Windows safe mode,uninstall
HPT driver and reboot into safe mode again, then install new
HPT driver. |

If there is RAID-0 configuration, we strongly suggest as action

If there is RAID-1 configuration, delete RAID configuration
via BIOS, take action b-1, then rebuild RAID configuration in
BIOS again. |
