Just built system - FDD light (3.5, 1.44Mb)stays on from the get go and can't boot to the Floppy Drive - all other functions normal. I've checked the settings in Softmenu II to insure that the CMOS is identifying the drive correctly - it is. Tested the drive and cable in another machine - both function properly. Cable is properly connected - backwards, forwards, twisted, whatever - still no luck. Cleared the CMOS and tried again too. Any further ideas? Thanks in advance.

Have you made sure the cable is not reversed? Typically the cable is reversed (at motherboard or floppy) if the light stays on all the time. Try reversing the cable at the floppy.

I have tried everything with the cable - but sure I have it right - the twist is at the end with the floppy, red line at pin 1, the mobo end has a guide to prevent any errors, the cable is on solidly and accurately. Maybe it is time for that Viagra... Frustrated, getting to be about hammer time...
